About Me

I am Hema Mohan, an artist based in the beautiful coastal city of Chennai in South India. My passion lies in creating exquisite artwork through drawing and shading techniques. I specialize in still life, wildlife, portrait drawing, and urban sketching, using a variety of tools such as graphite, charcoal, and color pencils.

How I rediscovered artist in me?

When it comes to drawing, it's all about your determination and motivation to master the skill. From my childhood, I have been captivated by the world of art.

Drawing has always brought me immense happiness and a sense of pride. Yet, during my later teens, while pursuing my career goals and aspirations, my beloved hobby took a back seat. I ventured into the field of Accounts and Finance, working in various finance management roles for 14 years. I could do drawings only on and off and it stayed in the back seat.

My motto “Learning is continuous, enjoy and believe in the process, results will follow”. Despite the professional work there was a constant urge to get back to my first love of drawing and even in this period I was always looking to learning new things to continue to grow as an artist every day.
How I became a full-time artist and teacher is an interesting journey. It involved reconnecting with my true passion, undergoing further training, and exploring different artistic techniques.

Turning Professional: From Enthusiast to a Full Time Artist

In 2017, while perusing a local newspaper, an advertisement for Tanjore drawing classes caught my attention. Intrigued, I decided to enroll and explore this new artistic realm. Little did I know that this would be the starting point of a transformative journey.

Through the classes, I delved into the world of Tanjore art, Kerala Murals, Sketching and Shading, Portrait drawing, and Ink drawing. The more I immersed myself in these various techniques, the more captivated I became. The hours of practice, dedication, and continuous learning soon paid off, and I began to hone my skills as an artist.

I dedicated countless hours to perfecting my techniques, attending workshops, and embracing opportunities to learn from experienced artists. The knowledge and insights I gained propelled me towards becoming a better professional artist.

From Artist to Teacher - Empowering Others

Sharing my artistic journey and learnings with like-minded drawing enthusiasts has become a natural progression for me. It all began quite unexpectedly, through a fortunate set of circumstances when I started teaching online classes for enthusiastic children of my friends and relatives. Drawing upon my training and experience in my professional life, I embarked on creating engaging drawing courses that cater to individuals at any stage of their artistic journey.
In these meticulously crafted courses, I introduce drawing concepts in a methodical and step-by-step manner, drawing upon my earlier experience in designing courses. I firmly believe that anybody can draw, given a correct understanding of the fundamental elements of drawing combined with consistent practice. It brings me immense joy to witness the growth and development of my students, regardless of their location in the world.
 
Today, my reach extends beyond geographical boundaries as I have the privilege of teaching a diverse and enthusiastic group of students from various corners of the globe. I take great pleasure in sharing what I have learned and nurturing the talents of my students, instilling in them the sheer joy of art.
 
My approach is centered around the belief that drawing is an attainable skill for all. Through a combination of comprehensive instruction, guided exercises, and ample practice, I empower my students to unlock their artistic potential. I understand that building a strong foundation is crucial, and I ensure that the fundamental elements of drawing are taught in a clear and accessible manner.
